چکیده

When people interact, affective information is transmitted between their brains. Modern imaging techniques permit to investigate the dynamics of this brain-to-brain transfer of information. Here, we used information-based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the flow of affective information between the brains of senders and perceivers engaged in ongoing facial communication of affect. We found that the level of neural activity within a distributed network of the perceiver's brain can be successfully predicted from the neural activity in the same network in the sender's brain, depending on the affect that is currently being communicated. Furthermore, there was a temporal succession in the flow of affective information from the sender's brain to the perceiver's brain, with information in the perceiver's brain being significantly delayed relative to information in the sender's brain. This delay decreased over time, possibly reflecting some 'tuning in' of the perceiver with the sender. Our data support current theories of intersubjectivity by providing direct evidence that during ongoing facial communication a 'shared space' of affect is successively built up between senders and perceivers of affective facial signals.

Anatomical Variations of Circle of Willis in 57 Human Brains

Purpose: The circle of willis is responsible for blood supply of brain, which may suffer from anatomical variations. These disturbances can lead to aneurysm or even arterial rupture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anatomical structure of the cerebral arteries forming the circle of willis in adult cadavers. Also, cerebral versus non- cerebral versus non-cerebral arterial walls wer...

Designing for Affective Interactions

An affective human-computer interaction is one in which emotional information is communicated by the user in a natural and comfortable way, recognized by the computer, and used to help improve the interaction. Before the computer or its designer can adapt an interaction to better serve an individual user, feedback from that user must be associated with the actions of the machine: did a specific...

Flow of Emotional Messages in Artificial Social Networks

Models of message flows in an artificial group of users communicating via the Internet are introduced and investigated using numerical simulations. We assumed that messages possess an emotional character with a positive valence and that the willingness to send the next affective message to a given person increases with the number of messages received from this person. As a result, the weights o...

Multimedia Information Extraction Roadmap: Integration of Affective Computing and Multimedia Information Extraction

Work by Picard and others has created considerable awareness for the role of affect in human computer interaction. As key ingredients of affective computing Picard identifies recognizing, expressing, modelling, communicating, and responding to emotional information (Picard 2003). In the context of information extraction, methods of affective computing can be applied to enhance classical informa...
